Grandmother works magic to win pageant

KUSA - Being a professional magician has its advantages. A magical performance helped Sharon Nuanes claim the crown at the 2014 Ms. Senior Colorado America pageant last week.

The retired grandmother wowed the crowd with her magic act and her message on her philosophy of life.

"My philosophy is living with passion, strength and honesty," she said.

Nuanes is no stranger to the pageant world. She was crowned Mrs. Colorado 1981, as part of the Miss America pageant organization.

She became Denver's first volunteer female firefighter in 1974. She also worked for 38 years for the Bureau of Reclamation as a Dam Engineer.

Nuanes will go on to Atlantic City to compete in the Ms. Senior America pageant in October.
