Best time to harvest your garden

KUSA - CSU Extension Master Gardeners joined Gardenline 9 to answer summer lawn and garden questions.

Many vegetables are ready to pick now. It's important it is to harvest promptly - so you do not get those baseball bat sized zucchini – to get the most nutritional value and flavor. Harvesting early also reducing weight on the plant and encourages more fruit.

It's a too early for pumpkins and melons, but beets, some tomatoes, definitely zucchini, cucumbers, should be picked while small.

The CSU Extension office at 888 E. Iliff has a vegetable demonstration garden, with all produce donated to feed homeless families.
