My proteges and I put together about twenty centerpieces to brighten up Thanksgiving dinner at Samaritan House. If you've forgotten to make a centerpiece for your table, it's a quick and easy project.
Start with a small "pie" pumpkin. Cut off the top and scoop out the seeds. The pumpkin holds water so it serves as a vase.
Use supermarket bouquets but cut most of the stems off to keep the arrangement low.
Seasonal flowers available now include mums, carnations, alstroemeria, daisies and sea holly. Add foliage from the garden such as evergreens, dusty miller and sage.
The whole centerpiece is biodegradable. After Thanksgiving, compost it or set it outside for your local wildlife to enjoy.
