DENVER - Attention yogis! The Art of Living Foundation is hosting its first ever Global Yogathon event in downtown Sunken Gardens Park at Ninth Avenue and Speer Boulevard by West High School on Saturday, joining 47 cities across North America, Europe and Australia.
The Yogathon initiative challenges local residents to complete 108 Sun Salutations (a dynamic sequence of yoga movements), stay fit, have fun and support a social cause. It aims to create awareness about yoga and its role in a healthy lifestyle, while raising funds for Care for Children. Yoga enthusiasts around the world will rise for a cause – through yoga – to benefit the program that provides free education to disadvantaged children in India.
"Health is not a mere absence of disease. It is a dynamic expression of life – in terms of how joyful, loving and enthusiastic you are. This is where yoga helps with postures, breathing techniques and meditation which provide a holistic fitness package and improve the quality of one's life," said Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living Foundation."
Yoga is not new to Denver. And folks in Denver are coming together to take up the 108 Sun Salutation challenge, an event that transcends the barriers of age, culture and physical ability.
