DENVER – An artist honoring a friend donated more than 300 prints to children battling cancer on Monday.
Everyone knows kids in the oncology unit at Children's Hospital Colorado already have the strength of a lion. And artist Jennie Pitts hopes that these kids would draw more strength from images of them.
"I just hope that these lions can be a little visual, tangible reminder of something that is just strengthening for them, something bigger than them, and they're not alone," Pitts said. She is honoring her friend Avery Young, who had painted lions herself.
Each print had a handwritten note on the back that says, in part, "may Avery's lion always remind you that you are fully known and fully loved."
