“Will you marry me… at Denver Comic Con?”
If that proposal is more of a turn-off than a turn-off, if dressing up in cosplay appeals more to you than a traditional wedding dress or tuxedo, and if you wouldn’t mind skipping the wedding preparation like booking a venue, then you may want to consider the group wedding Denver Comic Con is holding.
The Unity Wedding, as it’s called, is geek-themed and couples are encouraged to wear costumes, as its site said. It will be held July 2 in the Bellco Theatre at the Colorado Convention Center from 4 to 5 p.m. and will be open to heterosexual and same-sex couples.
And yes, it is official, not a playacting exercise. There will be a licensed, non-denomination officiant and pop-culture-themed wedding vows.
(We’re hoping for an “I love you,” “I know,” exchange in there somewhere).
There are a few rule and restrictions, naturally.
- It must be a “new” wedding, not a vow renewal for the couple.
- The wedding ceremony will be photographed and videotaped, and media may be present.
- Chosen couples must apply for their own marriage license, and proof of your marriage license application must be shown by May 22 or you will be disqualified.
The deadline to register was previously midnight of April 21, but it’s been extended to May 7. Chosen couples will now be notified May 14, and will receive two three-day passes to the con, along with up to 4 Sunday passes for friends and family.
And if you’re not getting married, you’re still welcome to attend the wedding if you have a three-day or Sunday badge.
