Only in Denver: Cross-country skiing nuns

9NEWS WEB EXTRA. 02/02/16.

DENVER – A 9NEWS viewer captured video of an unexpected sight near Sloan's Lake Tuesday: Two nuns cross country skiing.

"I was driving and I did a little double take…I just didn't believe what I saw," Laura Hagen said.

She pulled up next to the sisters to tell them they looked great. They told her they had to take advantage of the weather.

"It was hysterical…they had their full gown on and everything," Hagen said.

We wanted to find out who they were, so we did a little digging.

They are the Sisters of Life, an order of nuns founded in New York in the 1990s. They started a foundation in Denver last summer with a mission of reaching out to college-aged students.

According to a representative of the Archdiocese of Denver, the sisters have been spotted hiking and even throwing a Frisbee around on the CU campus in Boulder.
