A legacy of books
|
BOULDER – Magical and creative, that's how Elaine Pease describes her grandmother, a woman who enjoyed writing and even self published her own book in the 1940's. ![]() A legacy of books More than 65 years later, Pease has tapped into her own creativity and become an author of children's books. Her first picture book "I'll Never Leave" is the story of a little leaf determined not to leave the big, beautiful tree she's become so attached to. The inspiration for the story came on a warm November day, when Pease was on a walk with her family. She said, "I looked up at this big cottonwood tree and there was one leaf left and having the strange imagination that I do, I wondered what would happen if a leaf just didn't want to leave the tree." As a mom with two children, Pease lives with two fantastic editors. "They are very brutally honest with me," she said. Pease also sees the legacy of her grandmother in her own daughter, Natalie. She is a talented artist who brings her own magic to Pease's newest book, "Even Sharks Need Friends." Natalie Pease was 10 years old when she assisted illustrator Kerry Lee MacLean (author/illustrator of the "Pigs Over…" series of children's books), in creating the ocean for this story about a lonely shark. Pease hopes children who read her books will be inspired to write too. She tells them "Save everything that you write and illustrate because you never know." Pease is in the process of writing an historical novel based in the 1800's about the ghost over Boulder Creek. It is for children age 8 and older.
