Important dates to know for holiday shipping

KUSA - The United States Postal Service has posted important dates to know if you want your mail and packages to arrive in time for Christmas.

If you would like a package shipped domestically to arrive before Christmas, here are the key dates:

  • USPS Retail Ground mail needs to be sent by Dec. 15.
  • First-Class Mail needs to be sent by Dec. 20.
  • Priority Mail needs to be sent by Dec. 21.
  • Priority Mail Express Service mail needs to be sent by Dec. 23.

If you would like a package shipped internationally to arrive before Christmas, key dates depend on where you sending the item. As an example, here are dates for Europe:

  • First-Class International Service mail needs to be sent by Dec. 8.
  • Priority Mail International Service mail needs to be sent by Dec. 10.
  • Priority Mail Express International Service mail needs to be sent by Dec. 15.
  • Global Express Guaranteed mail needs to be sent by Dec. 21.
  • Use the drop-down menu under the "Mark Your Calendar" section of the USPS website to look up other global areas: https://www.usps.com/holiday/.

The Postal Service says that deadlines for Christmas delivery to U.S. military and APO/FPO depend on the destination.  If you would like a package shipped to a member of the military, here are some key dates:

  • USPS Retail Ground mail needs to be shipped by Nov. 7.
  • Space Available Mail needs to be shipped by Nov. 25.
  • Parcel Airlift Mail needs to be shipped by Dec. 2.
  • Priority Mail Service needs to be shipped by Dec. 9.
  • First-Class Mail Service needs to be shipped by Dec. 9.
  • Priority Mail Express Military Service mail needs to be shipped by Dec. 16.
  • The USPS website has several other dates listed for various military areas. Check the dropdown menu in the "Mark Your Calendar" section on their website to make sure dates have not changed.

The Postal Service offers a two dollar discount on its largest Flat Rate Priority Box when sent to an APO/FPO/DPO address.

The USPS offers a free military kit consisting of two priority mail APO/FPO/DPO Flat Rate boxes, two Priority Mail Medium Flat Rate boxes, Priority Mail tape, Priority Mail address labels. Kits can be ordered 800-610-8734.
