How a local musician is paying tribute to Buffalo Bill

It’s been 100 years since the death of Buffalo Bill Cody.

It’s been 100 years since the death of Buffalo Bill Cody.

Colorado singer-songwriter Jim Salestrom is marking the anniversary with a series of one-man shows to honor the legendary entertainer, who is buried above Golden on Lookout Mountain.

Salestrom is fascinated by Cody, who was an army scout, Pony Express rider, and at the age of 23 – showman.
He’s probably best known for his Wild West shows, which in the late 1880’s toured the U.S. and Europe.

They included cowboys, Indians, horses, battle reenactments and made Sitting Bull and Annie Oakley famous.

He was an early political activist, supporting civil rights for Native Americans, women’s rights and land conservation.

On Salestrom’s new CD, called Shady Pine, he recorded a song about Buffalo Bill.

It led him to write and perform his one-man show, featuring music, historical photographs and stories.

He’s doing the show 20 times over the next few months, at the Golden Masonic Lodge, and other locations in Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming.

Part of the proceeds go to charities, including the Mason’s Shriner’s Hospitals.
