Can a decal substitute for a regular license plate in Colorado? Of course not

Two days in a row a sharp NEXT viewer has spotted a dodgy license plate!
Yeah, no - this is not a legit license plate.

NEXT has been getting a lot of license plate questions lately. Who knows why - but this latest question from Jo questions a decal:

"It looks exactly like a real Colorado plate, however, it is a decal. The car sporting this is an unidentifiable sedan with no brand markings and does not have any holes to attach a license plate. Perhaps some sort of exception-type style?"

Thanks for your question, Jo.

The Department of Revenue is being a great sport with these kinds of questions.

This sealed decal that looks like a normal plate is not issued by the Department of Revenue. Drivers are required to use the plates issued by the DMV - and they should be mounted to each car - front and back with month and year expiration tabs.

So, of course, the decal plate isn't legit as far as the Department of Revenue is concerned.
