Technology makes shopping easier at Granby City Market

The Scan, Bag and Go program lets shoppers scan items, bag them and pay for them skipping traditional lines.

GRANBY — At the Granby City Market, these days Jessie Walsworth’s job in customer service also includes telling shoppers about a new technology that could speed up their shopping day.

“Get them to enjoy something new. Get them to try something new," said Walsworth.

It’s so new the City Market in Granby is the first City Market in Colorado to use it. The Scan, Bag and Go program lets shoppers scan items, bag them and pay for them skipping traditional lines.

"When you go to the self-checkout you scan a bar code that’s over there it pops up all your information you pay and go,”’ said store manager Jason Ward.

There’s also a mobile app that lets you pay as you shop without ever stopping to pay at all.

“You can attach a payment card to it so you can scan it bag it hit pay you don’t even need to hit the register,” said Walsworth.

The system even uses digital coupons automatically which kick in when you scan a product.

“It pulls up the weekly ad and it does pull up the digital coupons that you can just use right there,” said Ward.

Right now, there are a few King Soopers stores around the Denver area using the system and soon more stores around Colorado will be joining in.

Until then Jessie will tell you Granby is the place to go for shopping technology that’s as fresh as the produce.

“It’s kind of simple once you get into it,” said Walsworth.
