Raising awareness for breast cancer

This weekend, on Sunday, Sept. 25, thousands of survivors and supporters will help raise awareness at the Race for the Cure in Denver.

Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate. Any person or any race or gender can get the dreaded diagnosis, but there is hope through awareness of your own body and the risks.

When caught early, breast cancer has a 99 percent five-year survival rate. According to the CDC, not counting some kinds of skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States – no matter your race or ethnicity. Breast cancer is the most common cause of death from cancer among Hispanic women.

Dr. Joyce Moore, from Sky Ridge Medical Center talks about the latest in breast care, risk factors, and awareness:

Registration opens at 6 AM and the 5K starts at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning. If running/walking isn’t your thing, at 10:15 a.m. we’ll honor the breast cancer survivors participating.
