Has Trevor Siemian played his last down with the Broncos?

The Broncos placed Siemian on injured reserve, officially ending his season.

Watching Barkevious Mingo of the Indianapolis Colts get a hold of Trevor Siemian and driving him into the ground, dislocating his shoulder in the process, should be the last image you see of Siemian in a Denver Broncos uniform.

The Broncos placed Siemian on injured reserve, officially ending his season.

But it’s quite likely that it ended more than that. It’s a good possibility that it ended his career with the team.

I’ve been as big of a supporter of Siemian as anybody, but why would the team bring him back? He’s had a rough year, to say the least.

Siemian threw 18 touchdown passes last season compared to just 10 interceptions as the Broncos finished 9-7. But this year, he has clearly regressed. He’s thrown 12 touchdowns to go with 14 interceptions. He also has four lost fumbles.

Siemian has turned the ball over too much and he’s played scared this season. He’s failed to lead the team through adversity and shouldn’t be part of the team’s future.

When he went down Thursday night, Brock Osweiler came in and played quite well and arguably won that game. If Siemian had played that entire game, it’s likely that the Broncos would have lost to a really bad Colts team.

I was in support of the team going with Siemian this year. He outperformed Paxton Lynch in the preseason, again. But this season has shed plenty of light on several changes that the Broncos need to make and if that’s not going to be at head coach, then it has to be at quarterback.

The Broncos figure to have a high draft pick in the first round, one with which they might be able to find the quarterback of the future.

But what they have now between Siemian, Osweiler, Lynch and Chad Kelly, is a mess. The team must begin to work its way through that mess.

Siemian is under contract for the 2018 season, but it wouldn’t cost the Broncos much ($13, 196 in dead money) to let him go.

Siemian had a decent run with the Broncos and with 24 career starts to his name, his run has been better than most seventh-round draft picks. But it’s time to move on and start weeding out some of the things that have led the Broncos to have one of their worst seasons ever.

One of those things has certainly been the poor play of Siemian.
