2018 Paralympics: USA leads way as records set for number of competitors, countries

The Paralympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang set records for number of athletes and nations competing.

The Pyeongchang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games ended on Sunday.

Here’s a look at the Games by the numbers according to the organizing committee:

  • 567 athletes, 48 National Paralympic Committees competing, both records for the Games
  • 68 athletes from the USA, the largest contingent in Pyeongchang
  • 36 athletes over six disciplines for host Republic of Korea, that country’s largest contingent ever
  • 3 countries making their debut: North Korea, Georgia and Tajikistan
  • 80 events, eight more than the previous high in Sochi
  • 29 dignitaries from 20 countries attending
  • 814 media from 29 countries; 2,213 television personnel
  • 157% of ticket sales target sold (345,000).
  • 742,000 visitors
