Silverthorne is having a huge party for its Olympians

They'll have to play heavy metal at this party (get it? It's because so many people from Silverthorne won Olympic medals).

At the Silverthorne Recreation Center, Event Coordinator Sydney Schwab has been planning something big – in fact, it might be the biggest event her mountain town has ever had.

While she didn’t go the Olympics, Schwab is helping to bring the Olympics to Silverthorne with a massive party celebrating Olympic and Paralympic athletes Red Gerard, Kyle Mack, Amy Purdy, Chris Corning and Jimmy Sides.

They all call Silverthorne home.

“Which is so exciting,” Schwab said.

The event will start at 11 a.m. on April 28 with a parade down Rainbow Drive, then they will all head to Rainbow Park for an Olympic party.

“We’re going to have a little bit of a meet and greet maybe some phot ops, do some interviews, have the mayor here to give them the key to the city, and really do this all out and have a big celebration,” Schwab said.

Silverthorne already unofficially changed its name to Goldthorne after Red Gerard’s gold medal run, one restaurant put out a gold snowboard and the town has had to order five batches of these Goldthorne t-shirts.

Next up is the party.

“Our town is proud and excited, so I think everyone from the community will come out,” Schwab said.
