Colorado Rapids to begin season on a chilly Tuesday night

The Rapids will face off against Toronto FC at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

It's going to be chilly tonight but the Colorado Rapids don't mind.

The Colorado Rapids will begin their 2018 campaign Tuesday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The Rapids will face off against Toronto FC in the first leg of the Round of 16 in the CONCACAF Champions League.

The offseason was busy for the Rapids front office. The team boasts ten new players this season.

Colorado Rapids General Manager Pádraig Smith joined the 9NEWS morning show Tuesday morning.

"There's no doubt last year wasn't good enough, we recognize that and I think we set out to make some big changes over the course of the offseason and that's what we've done," said Smith. "Lots of new faces around, a new head coach in Anthony Hudson who's been fantastic in his first couple of months here, a couple of additional coaching staff as well some front office staff."

The temperature for Tuesday night's 8 p.m. kickoff is expected to be around 10 degrees.

"This is quintessential Colorado weather, so this is what we have to deal with. Our players are ready. We hope the Toronto players are not as ready so we'll see how that goes tonight. It will be cold, but we're looking forward to turning Dick's Sporting Goods Park into the fortress it was in '16 and hopefully have a lot of fans come out to cheer on the guys."
