Big changes are coming to Colorado's weather on Thursday.
A few more days of mild, sunny weather are in store before an arctic cold front moves in towards the end of the week, bringing sub-zero temperatures with it.
At 9:28 a.m. Thursday winter officially arrives, and it will definitely feel like it.
For Denver, temperatures hover in the 20s and 30s from the winter solstice through the weekend.
Not only will temperatures stay below freezing, but there is also a good chance of snow.
Early models indicate we could see 2 to 5 inches of snow on Thursday, and another 4 to 8 inches on Saturday.
These are preliminary numbers - our weather team will continue to update estimated totals as they get new data throughout the week.
The cold, snowy weather may even stick around through Christmas day (Monday).
Here is Meteorologist Marty Coniglio's forecast for the weekend:
THURSDAY: Much colder and windy with snow. Early estimates are 2" to 5" by the end of the day, but we'll change/update those numbers as needed throughout the week. Morning lows from 18° to 23°, afternoon highs from 23° to 28°.
FRIDAY: Cloudy morning, snow redeveloping and turning even colder by late in the day. Morning lows from 5° to 10°, afternoon highs from 28° to 33°.
SATURDAY: VERY COLD! Windy with snow throughout the day. Early estimates are for 4" to 8" new snowfall, but we'll change/update those numbers as needed throughout the week. Morning lows from 0° to 5°, afternoon highs from 7° to 12°.
SUNDAY: Clear and cold. Morning lows from -8° to -3°, afternoon highs from 21° to 25°.
