Wind causes hundreds of delays, dozens of cancellations at DIA

Wind gusts reached 60 miles per hour at Denver International Airport on Monday afternoon, and this led to the cancellation of dozens of flights and delays for hundreds more.

According to DIA, there were 690 flights delayed as of 4:25 p.m. Those delays averaged around 90 minutes.

In addition, 79 flights were cancelled.

To put that into perspective, DIA averages 1,500 flights a day.

Wind caused travel difficulties throughout the Front Range on Monday, as well as heightened fire danger.

The gusts in northern Colorado – which reached 70 mph – toppled semi-trucks on I-25 near the Wyoming border.

Multiple 9NEWS viewers sent in photos of toppled sides and near-dust-storms east of the mountains.
