Winter weather advisory in the mountains, 70s in the city

The mountain snow is expected to continue through Friday evening with a total of 3-7 inches of accumulation.

It's already 70 degrees in Denver, but there's a winter weather advisory in the mountains.

All might not remain sunny along the front range; the National Weather Service is predicting brief showers or snowfall are possible in the early afternoon. Showers have already formed along eastern Larimer County.

As far as the mountains go, the NWS says a storm system is making its way east through the Rockies bringing snow and impacting travel.

Several gusts topping 60 mph have already been reported.

Thunderstorms are even possible in the High Country, according to a hazardous weather outlook released by the NWS.

Parts of Interstate 70 were closed due to the heavy snow and slick conditions. Westbound I-70 at Vail Pass Summit reopened around 12:30 p.m. following several cars sliding off the road.

The mountain snow is expected to continue through Friday evening with a total of 4-7 inches of accumulation.

The storm may also bring some rain into lower elevations, according to the NWS.
