In an effort to alert the public to the dangers of fake Internet pharmacies, the FDA is launching a national campaign, called BeSafeRx.

The FDA did a recent survey that found nearly one in four Internet shoppers has bought prescription drugs online. Buying counterfeit drugs on the web won't help people get better and could even contain arsenic or other poisons.

"The important things that people should know is when they go online to check a pharmacy is [the pharmacy] should ask for a prescription, have a pharmacist available by phone for consultation, they should have a U.S. address and be a U.S. based company and they should be licensed by the State Board of Pharmacy," FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg said.

To find a safe online pharmacy go to http://1.usa.gov/SgVead, and click on your state.
