GREENWOOD VILLAGE (AP) - The nation's Number One satelllite television programming provider plans to hold a grand opening today for its new customer support hub in Greenwood Village, south of Denver.

Officials with DirecTV say more than 1,000 people could eventually end up working there.

Spokeswoman Jade Ekstedt says 400 people have already been moved into the building from other nearby sites, and that the target workforce is 1,000 - "if not more."

The facility is expected to oversee customer-service operations across the country.

The hub is located inside the former site of ICG Communications. ICG once had more than 2,000 workers, but cut jobs while going through bankruptcy proceedings.

It was later acquired by Broomfield-based Level 3 Communications.

Englewood-based Liberty Media is in the process of acquiring a large stake in DirecTV, headquartered in El Segundo, California. That deal is expected to close sometime this summer.

Englewood is also home to the nation's second-largest satellite TV company, EchoStar Communications - the parent company of DISH Network.
