KUSA - Hundreds of employees at Kaiser Permanente have signed up for a weekly delivery of organic foods.

Dr. Andy Robinson is among those in the pilot program.

He says one of the benefits is you "don't have to go to the store and get it. It's delivered here. I can take it home and make it with one less step and less driving."

The produce is boxed up at the Grower's Organic warehouse in Denver. All of it is organic and much of the food comes from local farms.

Brian Freeman with Grower's Organic showed 9NEWS some green onions when we visited.

"They're farmed by Joe Lippis down in Canon City, Colorado, and they're the first to come out of the ground," Freeman said. "We're trying to touch the farms that are left behind now with the commercialization of organic farming. The family farms are what built this country, so we're trying to support the family farms in a way no one else is."

Every box includes information about a featured farmer's crop.

"People are getting more in touch with what they're eating, which is really important to me, getting people in touch with what they're putting in their bodies," Freeman said.

"I feel like organic food is good, not only for me personally but also for the environment and for the people in the world," said Robinson.

This is the second summer of the program between Kaiser and Grower's Organic. The companies will decide whether to continue the arrangement at the end of the season.
