Blue Bell unveils new ice cream flavor March 1

BRENHAM, Texas - Blue Bell ice cream fans are in for quite a treat to start the month of March.

The widely-popular Brenham, Texas-based company will be unveiled the new ice cream flavor, sea salt caramel, Saturday.

The flavor will be sold for a limited times in stores starting Saturday. The company expanded business to Colorado in 2011.

There is one flavor coming out next month that they had no problem revealing: Butter Crunch Ice Cream. Butter Crunch is a vanilla ice cream with chunks of crunchy chocolate peanut butter candy.

Facts about Blue Bell Ice Cream:

-Blue Bell officially expanded its business to Colorado on March 14, 2011, debuting a new flavor exclusive to Colorado: Rocky Mountain Road Ice Cream.

- Blue Bell began selling ice cream in the early 1900's, delivering it to neighbors by horse and wagon.

-E.F. Kruse took over the company in 1919 and it has been owned by the Kruse family ever since

-Although Blue Bell is only available in about 26 percent of the nation's supermarkets, it ranks as one of the top three, best-selling ice creams in the country.

-Former U.S. President George W. Bush had a hankering for Blue Bell Ice Cream: he often had the ice cream shipped to Camp David during his administration.

-Astronauts aboard the International Space Station were treated to Blue Bell in 2006 and 2012.
