KUSA - More than 20 Colorado coaches came together Wednesday to talk about sports and enjoy pizza.

It was part of the coaches vs. cancer fundraiser at Big Bill’s NY Pizza, which helps raise money for families fighting cancer in Colorado through the JoAnn B. Ficke Cancer Foundation.

Bill Ficke and his son, Dan, started the foundation in 2009 in honor of their beloved JoAnn, who they lost to cancer.

The fundraiser continues on Sunday as the 9/11 Day of Giving. On that day, customers donate their dinner checks and staff donate their salary. The fundraiser has raised more than $840,000 since it started.

“Over the last couple of years, we average about $120,000 a day on 9/11,” Bill Ficke with Big Bill’s Pizza said. “Everything is donated. Every single penny goes to cancer foundations. There’s no expenses without foundation, and people see this and they really support us, and it’s a day like today that gets it started.”

The fundraiser is open to the public, and will take place this Sunday at Big Bill’s NY Pizza.
