Chipotle looks to grow business in Europe

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. is looking to grow its operations in Europe.

The Denver restaurant chain (NYSE: CMG) on Monday said it's hired Jim Slater, former manager of a big coffee chain in the United Kingdom, to head its European operations.

Slater will oversee the strategy, development and growth of Chipotle’s European business, Chipotle said.

When Slater was the managing director of Costa Coffee in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Chipotle said it grew bigger than Starbucks, Nero, Pret a Manger and Eat combined.

“We have great confidence in his abilities and expertise, and believe his leadership will help us enhance and grow our business in Europe," said Steve Ells, Chipotle founder, chairman, and co-CEO, in a statement.
