DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman said Monday that more than 20,000 checks have been mailed to homeowners who she said were charged false and inflated foreclosure fees by law firm Aronowitz & Mecklenburg LLP.
Coffman contracted with a third-party administrator to send out the payments, totaling more than $7.7 million. It was part of a 2014 settlement in which the foreclosure law firm agreed to pay $10 million.
Of the 20,000 homeowners, an estimated 2,039 carried the foreclosure and paid the inflated fee. They each got checks for $525. About 18,330 homeowners, who modified their loans, each received checks for $365.70.
