Colorado should spend more on tourism marketing, say consultants

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - The Colorado Tourism Office’s successful efforts to attract more visitors from across the country has drawn the attention of competitor western states — and has helped push many of them to boost their budgets to gain back some of the market share they may have lost to the Centennial State.

And thus, as Colorado develops new strategies to continue its tourism growth, it needs a multi-pronged strategy, a pair of consultants told an industry gathering hosted by the CTO Tuesday:

  • It needs to integrate regional attractions to entice more visitors for multi-day excursions.
  • It needs to nab more of the residents of surrounding states who can drive or fly into the state.
