Colorado tied for 5th for Aug. small-business job gains

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Colorado tied for fifth place among the states for gains in small-business employment in August, up from July's 12th-place finish, even though last month's percentage increase in small-business jobs was lower than in July.

That's according to the latest monthly Small Business Index from Intuit Inc., released Wednesday.

Colorado small-business employment rose by 0.11 percent in August from July levels, below the state's 0.16 percent gain in July. But that was enough to put the state in a four-way tie for fifth place among the states for job gains at small businesses.

Colorado ranked in 12th place in July, seventh place in June, 10th in May, 23rd in June and 12th in January, February and March, Intuit said.

In August, Utah saw the nation's biggest small-business job gains, up half a percent. Florida, Mississippi and South Carolina all tied for second place, with gains of 0.13 percent.
