Ergen steps down as Dish Network CEO; new chief executive named

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Charlie Ergen is giving up his job as CEO of Dish Network Corp.

Ergen, who founded the Douglas County company in 1980 when it was known as EchoStar Communications Corp., said he's stepping aside "to devote more attention to the company's emerging wireless business." Erik Carlson, the company's current president and COO, was named new CEO and he'll report to Ergen.

"With more than 20 years' experience at Dish, Erik brings a complete understanding of the business opportunities both Dish TV and Sling TV possess," Ergen said in a statement.
