General Atomics buys Colorado satellite business

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Surrey Satellite Technology US, the small Colorado-based satellite development arm of a British aerospace company, has been acquired by defense contractor General Atomics.

San Diego-based General Atomics did not disclose the terms of the deal.

Surrey Satellite’s “assets and workforce” will be made part of the General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems Group and help the company develop and run small satellites and satellite payload technologies, the company said.

“The Surrey-US team’s expertise in designing and deploying small satellites and end-to-end mission solutions is complementary to ours,” said Scott Forney, president of General Atomics-EMS. “We are excited that GA-EMS now will offer ground-to-space solutions utilizing nano, micro, and small satellites from 3U to 500 kg with a high degree of modularity and payload flexibility.”
