How the Pro Challenge is preparing Vail for another big event

VAIL- At the Vail Style store, AJ Peters is stocked up for the Pro Challenge, with "some t-shirts and ball caps."

He's ready for the big crowds that will form right ouside his window to watch the world's best cyclists in the grueling time trial stage up Vail Pass.

"[It's] almost like the Tour De France but it's the Tour of Colorado, so it's going to be a huge event here," Peters said.

Look around the store and you'll also see a lot of 2015 merchandise, which indicates AJ is also stocking up for another big Vail event.

"It's going to be huge, it's going to be almost like the Colorado Olympics," Peters said.

If the Pro Challenge is a large event, then Ceil Folz with the Vail Valley Foundation says the upcoming 2015 World Alpine Ski Championships is extra-large.

"The World Ski Championships goes for 15 days in February, and is broadcast all around the world, so we will have a billion people worldwide who will see the ski championships," Folz said.

At the Vail Valley Foundation, organizers are using the Pro Challenge bike race to help prepare for the World Ski Championships with the same volunteers working both events.

"People running awards for us, our volunteers will also be doing awards here. we will also have the people doing festivals and concerts for 2015 World Champions will also be doing that for cycling," Folz said.

The hope is that they will be able to show the world that Vail is just as much a cycling town as a ski town, something you can see from all the ski and cycling stuff in AJ's store.

"Lots of people, lots of traffic and a lot of people buying," Peters said.

After all, he now gets two great chances to sell to two big crowds right how his window.

"Two big events here in Vail that's coming up, so you can't miss it," Peters said.
