DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - On my sixth birthday, I was given a bicycle by my grandmother.
I remember wanting a bicycle desperately from the time I was four but was told that I couldn't have one until I turned six.
With great excitement, I took my bicycle outside for the first time ever, training wheels and all, and within 20 minutes I had managed to scrape both my knees and palms on unforgiving pavement.
But the pain and possible tears that came from upending myself a few times never caused me to think for a second that riding a bike wasn't for me. Instead, I got back up, learned how to balance better and over time the training wheels were removed.
