Metro Denver's unemployment rate dips slightly in August

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Metro Denver’s unemployment rate dipped in August to 3.2 percent, down from July’s rate of 3.4 percent, state officials reported Tuesday.

Metro Denver's unemployment rate in August is also slightly lower than August of last year, when it was 3.4 percent. The data was released along with the state numbers that showed unemployment at 3.8 percent, which was unchanged from July, but was also lower than at this time last year.

Metro Denver makes up about 55 percent of the state’s employment. The 3.2 percent unadjusted jobless rate in the Denver metro area is for 10 counties and includes the cities of Denver, Aurora, Lakewood, Broomfield and Centennial, but not Boulder County.

Job sectors that have contributed to that growth are in construction, leisure and hospitality and professional business services.
