OPEC reaches deal to cut oil production; Colorado energy company share prices jump

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - News that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has reached a deal to cut its oil production sent oil prices soaring early Wednesday.

Oil prices were rising by as much as 7 percent early Wednesday, and shares in some Colorado energy companies were experiencing double-digit share price jumps.

In early Wednesday trading, here's how Colorado energy companies were faring on Wall Street:

• Bill Barrett Corp.(NYSE: BBG), up nearly 12 percent, or up 76 cents to $7.52;

• Bonanza Creek Energy Inc. (NYSE: BCEI), up more than 12 percent, or up 11 cents to $1.05;
