REI to move its Centennial store into former Sports Authority in Greenwood Village

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Seattle-based outdoor retailer Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) will relocate its Arapahoe County store from Centennial to a larger space in Greenwood Village formerly occupied by Sports Authority, the outdoor-gear cooperative said Monday.

The Sports Authority at 9000 E. Peakview Ave., was among the first to fall, closing its doors just before the sporting-goods retailer filed for bankruptcy last spring. It's a highly visible location just east of Interstate 25 and north of Arapahoe Road.

Now, REI will occupy the 45,000-square-foot space, moving from its existing store at 9637 E. County Line Road in the Centennial Promenade shopping center, near the IKEA store.

REI has had a store there for 19 years, according to a news release from the company, but the new location will allow it to expand its space and offerings
