Report grades how top restaurants source meat

For the second year in a row, Chipotle and Panera Bread came out ahead in a scorecard assessing antibiotics use by popular restaurants.

The report ranks 25 fast food and “fast casual chains” based on their antibiotics practices.

Why does it matter? Health authorities say antibiotic resistance is a public health threat, and many of these lifesaving drugs are given to animals in order to foster growth and prevent disease – something exacerbating the problem.

Subway and Chick-fil-A both received “B” grades on the scorecard, which is a collaboration between Friends of the Earth, the Natural Resources Defense Council, Consumers Union, Food Animal Concerns Trust, Keep Antibiotics Working and the Center for Food Safety.

McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Taco Bell received “C” grades, with multiple other restaurants – including Starbucks, Chili’s, iHop and Arby’s, receiving an “F.”
