Rug store owners will not sell land to Glendale

GLENDALE – The hotly-contested strip of land along South Colorado Boulevard that is currently home to Authentic Persian Rugs will not be sold to the City of Glendale.

The Kholghy family, which owns Authentic Persian Rugs, announced Tuesday they will not accept the City of Glendale's offer to buy the property to make way for a new shopping and retail development.

In a news release sent out Tuesday, the city of Glendale confirmed its initial assertions that it will not condemn the land if the owners don't accept , and continue with the Glendale 180 project without it.

The project will continue as scheduled, Glendale says.

"Glendale stated last week that if we rejected their offer, they would revise their plans to exclude our land. They also promised not to condemn our land. We intend to hold them to those promises," Nasrin Kholghy said.

The Kholghy family says they did not accept the offer because they want to run and operate their business or develop the property themselves.
