DENVER - Sakura Square – one square block of prime real estate in downtown Denver – is about to get a major facelift.
The block is bordered by 19th and 20 streets on the north and south, and Lawrence and Larimer on the east and west.
The Tri-State Denver Buddhist Temple is the cornerstone and back in the day, the area was known as “Japantown.”
Sakura Square has kept its Japanese American roots all these years, and is the site of the Cherry Blossom Festival each year.
The owners of the square just started the process of looking for a developer to come up with a master plan to breathe new life into the block.
They say the goal is to retain the heritage and cultural foundation, and promise to get input from the community before anything is finalized.
