Small business health: Colorado, Denver improve as centers of 'Main Street entrepreneurship'

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Colorado ranks fourth among the states an a healthy environment for well-established small businesses, up from seventh a year ago, according to an annual report on "Main Street entrepreneurship."

And the state as well as metro Denver rank high for the rate of small-business ownership and the survival rate of these businesses, say the researchers at the Kansas City-based Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

The details of how main streets across the country are faring were revealed today in the 2016 Kauffman Foundation Index of Main Street Entrepreneurship.

The report focuses on small business that have operated for more than five years and employ fewer than 50 people.
