DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Last-minute holiday shoppers, rejoice! Wal-Mart said Wednesday that it will make tens of thousands of additional items on its website available for same-day store pickup this holiday season.
The Bentonville, Arkansas-based big box store also said it will offer shoppers the lowest prices on items, rather than hold “gimmicky” online and in-store sales. The strategy is part of the company’s effort to attract shoppers during the holiday season as competition heats up with online retailers.
“We are listening to our customers and looking for ways to simplify their busy lives,” Judith McKenna, Wal-Mart’s (NYSE: WMT) U.S. chief operating officer, said in a press release. “Whether our customers are checking items off their grocery lists or their kids’ holiday lists, we want to make their shopping experiences [are] easy and fun.”
The volume of items ordered online and picked up same day at Wal-Mart stores increases by five times during the holiday season, the company said. Wal-Mart will make more items across categories available for easy pick up, including apparel, toys and seasonal decor.
