DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Obtaining a lease to access federally owned oil and natural gas rights will soon be just a click away, as the Bureau of Land Management said Thursday it will hold its first online auction of oil and gas leases in Colorado on Dec. 8.
The online sales are an effort to update and streamline the BLM’s decades-old tradition of holding in-person, oral auctions. The online sales also will save money, the federal agency said Thursday.
The online sales also could avoid rallies and protests held by groups opposed to fossil fuel development, such as occurred at the BLM’s Lakewood office last May involving hundreds of protesters.
