What's in a mineral-based sunscreen?

KUSA – Summer is hot enough, and let's be honest, no one wants a lobster-red sunburn to go with the scorching temperatures.

That's why it's time to start stocking up on sunscreen. May is, after all, Skin Cancer Awareness Month. On Wednesday, the Boulder-based company Goddess Garden Organics joined the 9NEWS morning team to discuss its mineral-based sunscreens.

Husband-wife team Nova Covington and Paul Halter were inspired to start a line of natural skincare products after their daughter had a serious reaction to some conventional ones. Together, with her herbalist background and his nutrition-science degree, they created Goddess Garden Organics. It has become the leading mineral based sunscreen on the market.

Their products are 100 percent natural, biodegradable and use naturally occurring minerals including zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. On top of that, the minerals do not cause harm to you or the planet.
