DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Six years ago, at the start of the decade, Joe Vostrejs and Jesse Morreale were two of the biggest names on the Denver restaurant scene.
Vostrejs is a partner in Larimer Associates, which has invested in or opened 36 restaurants, and Morreale was the owner/operator of several successful, edgy bars and restaurants in areas where other entrepreneurs didn’t dare to venture.
They’d even discussed working together someday, if the right project came along.
But then Morreale became embroiled in a highly public feud with Denver’s planning department, which shut down his El Diablo and Sketch restaurants in the Baker neighborhood over alleged safety violations while other city officials revoked the cabaret license at his Rockbar on East Colfax Avenue.
