DENVER - About 750,000 property owners in the metro area will be getting something in the mail soon. They're called notices of valuation, and they could impact how much property tax you pay.
The new valuations are based on information and market prices as they were on June 30, 2010.
Assessors say in 2011, most people will see that their property values are lower, meaning their tax bill will be lower. But some areas in Aurora that had dropped in value two years ago have seen a big improvement in values.
Owners who agree with the new values do not need to do anything, but anyone who disagrees has the option of filing a protest.
