DENVER - A fundraiser is planned for Saturday to help give a security guard, who was murdered outside a country western bar last weekend, a proper burial.

The Grizzly Rose is holding the benefit from 6 p.m. Saturday until close to raise money for the family of Timothy Minnick, who was killed outside the bar last weekend.

Minnick, 48, and one other security guard had gone to check on some suspicious-looking people in the parking lot when Minnick was shot. Deputies say the men looked suspicious because they were wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks over their faces.

Authorities say a fight broke out and one of the three men pulled out a handgun and shot Minnick in the abdomen.

Minnick, a former Brighton Police officer, was only working security at the bar to make ends meet, according to his brother Leland. He left behind a son, daughter and a girlfriend he was about to marry.

The benefit will feature a concert by the Flap & Jacks, which includes Mudflap from KYGO's band, as well as a silent auction and food. There is no cover charge to get in, but donations are being accepted at the door.

Authorities have not made an arrest in the shooting. The men drove away in a mid-90s SUV, possibly a Jimmy or a Blazer, with tinted back windows. Deputies say a heavyset woman with long hair was also seen inside the getaway car.
