FBI adopts school
|
DENVER - The FBI is reaching out to one metro school by adopting it and teaching students what really happens within the federal agency. ![]() The FBI adopted the Career Education Center Middle College of Denver High School through the Adopt-A-School program. The school helps prepare students for careers outside the school. Many of the students show interest in law enforcement. "Most of our students want to go into Criminal Justice or Forensics. It just gives them a real opportunity to see how it's done," said Stacey Hervey, a Crime and Forensics teacher at the school. The FBI gets something out of the program too.Through it, agents teach students about what the FBI really does while debunking myths many students acquire about the agency through TV. "We get to kinda demystify what we do. You know people here and think a lot of the things about what the FBI is all about. This is a great opportunity for us to get up in front of kids and talk about what we do," said FBI Special Agent in Charge Jim Davis. The FBI adopts schools across the nation in areas where kids are considered to be "at risk." The Denver students will learn from agents through the end of the year.
