Big warmup, big meltdown
|
VIEW SLIDESHOW ![]() Heavy rain and snowfall amounts were recorded up and down the Front Range of Colorado with almost five feet of snow in some mountain locations. The moisture set records in the Denver area for the most in a 24-hour period Friday when 1.16" of total precipitation fell at DIA. Most of the metro area received between two to four inches of liquid precipitation from the rain/snow at the end of last week. 9NEWS Meteorologist Marty Coniglio says that some locations around town got almost one third of their annual precipitation in just two and a half days. "Mud season" will be in full swing during the week as temperatures soar into the 70s and 80s at lower elevations with 50s and 60s in mountain areas. Rivers, creeks and streams will be running high and fast so it will be best to be extremely cautious around Colorado's waterways during the week. New moisture will be limited to a very few locations mainly over the higher terrain in the form of light afternoon showers. Total rainfall will be quite light in the few places that get a brief shower. Denver's snowiest April was in 1933 when 33.8 inches of snow fell at Union Station in Lower Downtown. The wettest April ever was in 1900 when total precipitation was 8.24", more than twice what we've had so far this month. (Copyright KUSA*TV, All Rights Reserved)
