DENVER - Most city and government offices will not be open on Friday due to a budget-required furlough day for city employees. In addition, the city offices will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day.

Friday is the second of four planned furlough days this year. The furlough days will save about $1 million per day to help the city as the economy continues to struggle.

"We are aware of the financial hardship that furlough days have on city employees and the inconvenience that may have on citizens," said Mayor John Hickenlooper.

The mayor's office, city council offices, the auditor's office, Denver public libraries, recreation centers, and most city agencies will be closed on Friday.

Denver Health, the Denver Zoo and on a limited basis, the Denver District Attorney's Office will be open on Friday. Also, agencies that operate 24 hours a day like the Denver International Airport, the sheriff's department and police and fire departments will remain open on Friday.

Trash will be collected on Friday, but not on Monday, Memorial day. Check with local workforce centers, as some will be open on Friday. All will be closed on Monday.

All parking meters will be enforced on Friday. They will be free on Monday for the holiday.

All city-owned golf courses will be open for regular business the entire weekend.

The entire list of city services will be posted on the city's Web site by close of business Wednesday. You can find that at www.denvergov.org.
