While many areas saw heavy rain, snow fell in some locations across the metro area Wednesday, mainly in the southern suburbs like Parker, Franktown, Castle Rock, Kiowa and Elizabeth. Foothill locations like Bailey, Conifer and Evergreen also saw big wet flakes come down for much of the day and minor accumulation.

9NEWS Meteorologist Becky Ditchfield says snow fell early Thursday morning with additional light accumulation above 7,000 feet.

Occasional light rain showers have moved east of the Denver area overnight with additional showers moving back into the area by the afternoon. There are no winter weather or travel advisories in effect.

It has been a chilly start so far, as well. Overnight lows fell into the upper 30s and low 40s around the metro area.

For the afternoon, keep the jacket and umbrella handy as scattered showers are back in the forecast Thursday. We will see a bit of sun on Thursday but under mostly cloudy skies afternoon temperatures will remain below normal in the mid 50s and lower 60s.

The storm will start to unwind and weaken Thursday. As it lifts northward drier air will begin to work in ahead of a ridge of high pressure that will bring a nice warming trend for the upcoming weekend and beyond. Look for highs to rebound back into the 70s by Saturday!
